Doctors Richard A. Bermudes MD, Rachael Smith MD, David Fakhri DO, and David Sisemore DO
Richard A. Bermudes, MD (El Dorado Hills and Sacramento)
Dr. Bermudes is an adult and adolescent psychiatrist. He earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego and completed his residency training in psychiatry and in family medicine at the University of Cincinnati. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. He has completed a fellowship in cognitive therapy and cognitive therapy supervision at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is a member of The Academy of Cognitive Therapy, the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and The American Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Bermudes’ clinical interests include adult and adolescent mood and anxiety conditions, cognitive behavioral therapy, and education. He directs cognitive behavioral therapy training for Sacramento County Adult Mental Health Services Division and Sutter Center for Psychiatry. He has authored articles on cognitive therapy techniques, the metabolic syndrome, medication associated obesity, and is the principle editor of a book published by the American Psychiatric Publishing, Inc. titled A Clinical Guide for Managing Metabolic Abnormalities in the Psychiatrically Ill: What Psychiatrists Need to Know (2007).
David Fakhri, DO (Sacramento)
Dr. Fakhri is an adult psychiatrist. Dr. Fakhri completed his medical training at Michigan State University, College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency training in psychiatry at the University of California, Davis Medical Center and is board certified by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. Prior to Mindful Health Solutions, Dr. Fakhri was an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, Davis Medical Center.
Dr. Fakhri’s clinical interests include psychodynamic psychotherapy and the medication management of mood and anxiety conditions. Dr. Fakhri utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches to assist patients in discovering the conflicts (often unconscious) that are contributing to their problems with mood, personality, self-esteem or love and work relationships. Dr. Fakhri is bilingual and able to see Spanish-speaking clients on a case by case basis.
Dr. Fakhri is a training supervisor in psychodynamic psychotherapy for the residency training program at the University of California, Davis Medical Center. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, California Psychiatric Association, Central California Psychiatric Association, and the American Osteopathic Association.
Rachael Smith, MD (El Dorado Hills)
Rachael Smith, MD is a child and adolescent psychiatrist. After beginning her career as a first grade teacher she went on to complete her medical degree at the University of California at Davis. Dr. Smith completed her residency in General Psychiatry at the University of California, Davis Medical Center as well as fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry.
Dr. Smith is bilingual and able to see Spanish-speaking clients. She values close relationships with her patients and in particular enjoys working with teenagers. Dr. Smith’s treatment places emphasis on strengthening the relationship and communication between parents and their children. Dr. Smith also practices child and adolescent psychiatry in several community non-profit clinics in Sacramento County.
In 2006 Dr. Smith received an award from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA) to complete a handbook and glossary of terms focused on the Spanish-speaking population and mental health. Dr. Smith is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Psychiatric Association.
David Sisemore, DO (Sacramento – Midtown)
Dr. David Sisemore is an adult psychiatrist. He completed his medical training at Western University of Health Sciences at the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. He completed his residency in Adult Psychiatry at the University of California, Davis Medical Center and is board certified by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. Dr. Sisemore’s primary clinical interest and expertise is the treatment of substance abuse, particularly opiate dependency.
Dr. Sisemore is certified by SAMHSA (Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration) to treat patients with opiate dependency using the prescription medications suboxone and subutex. Dr. Sisemore has successfully treated many individuals suffering from opiate addiction in various settings including his private practice, Bi-Valley Medical Clinic, and Sutter Center for Psychiatry. Dr. Sisemore works with his patients to treat not only their addiction, but also the psychiatric conditions that often accompany substance-abuse such as depression, anxiety, and relationship-problems.
Dr. Sisemore uses a variety of therapeutic techniques to treat both substance-addicted patients and individuals suffering from depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders. He is also experienced helping patients resolve problems related to gender-identity. Dr. Sisemore is trained in both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and often combines techniques to provide patients with the most effective treatment for their conditions.
