Dr. Beltagui is a Board-Certified Adult Psychiatrist who specializes in helping patients with depression and anxiety. He utilizes the most recent demonstrated advancements in psychiatry to help his patients flourish. Having seen a lot of his patients struggle through conventional methods of treatment, he has a particular interest in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), which has given his patients relief from some of their suffering.
He has always had a fascination with mental health and how the human mind works. During medical school, he became exposed to the mental illness struggles and stigmas that patients face. From there, the decision to complete his residency in psychiatry became a no-brainer. He wanted to be able to help, and to get his patients on their path to mental health recovery.
In working with patients, Dr. Beltagui empowers them and gives them the support they need to realize their own potential and lead fulfilling lives. He sees the physician/patient relationship as a collaboration, and his ideal patient is someone who is committed to mental health recovery and puts in the time and effort to get there, with Dr. Beltagui by their side, guiding and helping.
He believes that TMS is an innovative treatment that helps patients reach their mental health goals. It is a newer treatment, FDA-approved, that provides hope for countless people with treatment-resistant depression for whom medications have proven to be ineffective or side effects from medications have proven to be intolerable.
He joins Mindful Health Solutions in the Summer of 2021.
Having recently moved to Southern California, Dr. Beltagui is enjoying all it has to offer. He loves the proximity to the beach, how the mountains become gorgeously white in the winter, and that the desert is just a short drive away with its incredible starry nights. Outside of the office, he spends time with family and relishes traveling both locally and abroad. To keep active, he enjoys swimming and tennis.
Dr. Beltagui completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Alexandria Faculty of Medicine in Alexandria, Egypt.
He completed his psychiatry residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo. His training included treating a wide spectrum of mental health disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings at numerous area hospitals and psychiatric care facilities.
He worked as a Staff Psychiatrist for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services for three years. He treated patients with a wide range of mental disorders and many specialized psychiatric needs, and from a diversity of backgrounds. He developed and coordinated the overall psychiatric care and individualized treatment plans of these patients and helped them reach their goals.
He was an Attending Psychiatrist at the UCLA-Kern Psychiatry Residency Program in Bakersfield, California, for three years, where, in addition to his own clinical work, he lectured psychiatry residents on a variety of psychiatric topics and supervised them in their clinical work.
Throughout his time practicing and teaching, he continued to pursue further learning and exploration in psychiatry. Having learned about Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and the promise of treating his patients who did not respond to medications and may have treatment-resistant depression, he went to the Duke University Medical Center, where he completed his first TMS Fellowship, an intensive course on the treatment, different applications, and emerging brain stimulation techniques. He also completed a second TMS Fellowship at Harvard Medical School, providing him with further training and education.
He opened his own private practice in Los Angeles, New Dawn TMS Psychiatry, where he helped patients struggling with depression and OCD with TMS. He also provided psychotherapy and medication management services to optimize his patient outcomes.
