More about Ming Loong Teo, LCSW
Ming Loong Teo is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of California. Ming serves as the Director of the Psychotherapy Division at Mindful Health Solutions. With close to twenty years of varied community and social services experience, Ming has served as a mental health care provider for over ten years.
His academic and postgraduate training is based on the Scientist-Practitioner Model. He practices a collaborative, client-centered, strengths-based, and recovery-oriented approach to psychotherapy. As a therapist, Ming is a sex-positive LGBTQ-affirming provider who utilizes a transparent, direct, culturally sensitive, non-judgmental, warm, validating, accepting, and supportive interpersonal style. Ming provides therapy to individual adults and couples. He specializes in the treatment of trauma and working with survivors of narcissistic abuse and emotional manipulation. He provides therapy utilizing evidence-based practices such as EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Seeking Safety, Motivational Interviewing, Time-Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy, and Prolonged Exposure among many others.
With a strong background in social justice and social work, Ming believes strongly in the importance of addressing the systems of inequality that exist in our current society. These systems include institutional racism and systemic poverty. He acknowledges racial trauma and the consistent traumatization which often results due to living as an ethnic minority in the United States.
Ming Loong Teo provides therapy in English, Korean, Japanese, and Spanish.
Education & Experience
Ming earned a bachelor’s degree in Korean Language and Culture from UCLA. He then attended the University of Southern California School of Social work; graduating with a Master of Social Work degree with a Mental Health Concentration and a sub-concentration in Systems of Recovery from Severe and Persistent Mental Illness. During his years of graduate education, Ming completed a year-long clinical internship at the Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team (now known as SSG APAIT), where he worked with a multitude of individuals living with HIV/AIDS and co-occurring substance abuse issues. He then completed another year-long clinical internship at Korean American Family Services (KFAM), where he trained directly with renowned psychiatrist, Dr. Young K. Susan Chung, and provided therapy focused on the treatment of trauma and ADHD.
Ming has extensive education, training, and experience in the treatment of Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI), as well as the treatment of trauma and trauma-related disorders. He began his postgraduate career with the LA County Department of Mental Health and spent several years as a Psychiatric Social Worker at their Downtown Mental Health Center on Skid Row; providing individual psychotherapy and group interventions for individuals living with depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress, personality disorders, and substance abuse disorders.
Afterward, he served as a Clinical Director at LifeStance Health (formerly Pacific Coast Psychiatric Associates) for several years before joining Mindful Health Solutions as the Director of Psychotherapy in 2022.
In addition to his work as a mental health provider, Ming has served as the co-chair of the Cultural Intelligence workgroup for the Los Angeles County Health Agency, and has chaired other committees pertaining to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). He has advised companies and organizations on DEI implementation, messaging, and change management strategies. Ming also occasionally guest lectures at various social work and clinical psychology graduate programs in Southern California, and he provides mental health trainings to the LAPD several times per year.
Ming joined Mindful Health Solutions in the Summer of 2022.
