More about Nathaniel Barusch, MD

Dr. Barusch’s interest in psychiatry stems from his desire to answer important questions such as, “how best should we live our lives?” and “is there a way to suffer less?” He is interested in helping clients identify the causes and solutions to their suffering.

In developing a treatment plan for each patient, he explores the role of lifestyle, nutrition, and personal history. He emphasizes how patients can facilitate their healing and seeks to identify and remove barriers to wellness. He appreciates that telepsychiatry affords patients the opportunity to access mental health care in the convenience of their own home and he is able to create and nurture warm and collaborative relationships with patients via video appointments.

Dr. Barusch sees Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) as a very promising treatment particularly for those who haven’t responded to medications. He appreciates that it is both effective and well-tolerated. He has witnessed patients make tremendous progress through TMS.

He joined Mindful Health Solutions in the winter of 2019.

Education & Experience

Dr. Barusch is a graduate of the University of Utah where he earned his bachelor’s degree in biology with honors.

He completed medical school at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska where he served as the Class Wellness chair. As Vice President of the American College of Preventative Medicine-Medical Student Section, he was responsible for recruitment, event planning and contributing to a bimonthly newsletter.

His desire to understand the complex root causes of illness led him to the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where he earned a Master’s in Public Health. He researched the impact of technology use on the mental health of adolescents. Part of his thesis examined the efficacy of telepsychiatry.

He completed his residency in Psychiatry at the University of California, Davis. During residency he trained with Mindful Health Solutions in Sacramento and directly saw the difference TMS could make in helping patients with depression. He was drawn to working at Mindful Health Solutions because of the compassion and enthusiasm of the treatment team and their innovation.
