More about Rhea Singson-Tapang, PMHNP

Rhea Singson-Tapang found her calling for psychiatry in nursing school. One of her courses involved community nursing and she was simultaneously struck by the need for mental health care and also the stigma that could be associated with a mental illness. She had always been fascinated by how people’s minds work and how they are affected by various factors. Psychiatry allowed her to get to know the patients and help them alleviate their suffering and improve their overall quality of life.

Rhea provides holistic, cross-disciplinary treatment plans, collaborating with any other care team members for the utmost patient care and outcome, and offering emotional support to patients and their families to help her patients reach their treatment goals in a timely manner and make important decisions about their lives. She believes in taking care of her patients holistically and looking at the physical, mental, social, spiritual and psychological factors that promote wellness.

Having worked with clinics that offered both Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Rhea has witnessed the amazing results these treatments may offer. She has seen TMS change the lives of several of her patients. She believes TMS is a helpful and effective treatment for patients who have tried other forms of depression treatments to no avail. Plus, it is FDA-approved, non-invasive and has almost no side effects.

Rhea joined Mindful Health Solutions in the spring of 2020.

Personal Interests

Rhea spends her time outside of work focused on her family. Her husband, who is also in nursing, and her three kids are avid fans of the Sacramento Kings and try to attend as many games as possible at the Golden 1 Center, cheering on their team. As someone who enjoys travel both local and abroad, she appreciates the proximity Sacramento holds to some of California’s most coveted destinations, such as Napa, Sonoma, San Francisco and Lake Tahoe. She also likes to cook and often watches cooking programs to learn new techniques and new dishes.

Education & Experience

Rhea graduated from Northern Luzon Adventist College in the Philippines with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After passing her board exam, she worked as a Medical Surgical Nurse for three years.

She spent two years in the Middle East before migrating to the US and Sacramento, where she worked at Sierra Vista Hospital, an inpatient psychiatric facility in Sacramento. She provided care for a range of acutely ill patients there and continued to hone her nursing skills.

She next moved to Sutter Center for Psychiatry, where she worked as a Charge Nurse in the unit, providing direct care for patients. This included facilitating care for social and emotional needs, giving medications, and evaluating patient progress. She then joined the ECT team of Kaiser South Sacramento where she did pre-operative assessments for ECT patients, collaborating with variety of interdisciplinary professionals to determine and provide the best possible care for patients.

With her desire to further her education and help with the shortage of clinicians she noticed in her years of practice, she went back to school and earned her Master of Science in Nursing. She specialized in the Nurse Practitioner Credential in Psychiatric Mental Health at Walden University. She completed one of her clinical rotations in Diamond House Detox, one of Sacramento’s finest Drug Detox and Rehab Centers, where she evaluated, diagnosed, and offered patients individualized treatment plans for a successful recovery. She also trained at Kaiser Permanente Outpatient Hospital, where she saw pediatric/adolescent and adult patients. She formulated treatment plans, provided medication management services, collaborated with other healthcare team members, and performed consultations for ECT and TMS patients.
