More about Ryan Nugent, MD
Dr. Ryan Nugent has always been fascinated with the mind and how its complexities shape our behavior. This fascination was deepened in medical school through studying the function of the brain and realizing that there is still so much to learn. He then worked in various clinical settings helping patients with severe mental illness and saw how critical mental health is to overall well being. This all led him to psychiatry.
He believes each person’s story is unique and therefore, despite mental illnesses having certain names, each person experiences them differently and should be treated with this in mind. He strives to be collaborative, empowering his patients to shape their treatment with his advice. He also highly encourages his patients to be proactive in their treatment, as this leads to more lasting recovery and creates a sense of self-efficacy and resilience.
Dr. Nugent believes Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) has great potential for treating many common ailments, such as depression and anxiety. It is minimally invasive and, in contrast to medications, often completely free of side effects. Esketamine nasal spray has immediate proven benefits for severe depression as well as diagnosed treatment-resistant depression and, when combined with explorative therapy, has the potential to greatly enhance insights and progress towards lasting mental health. Mental health treatments are not a one size fits all solution, and clinicians such as Dr. Nugent strive to make sure each patient has an individualized treatment plan with alternative options that will work for them.
Dr. Ryan Nugent joined Mindful Health Solutions in the Summer of 2021.
