More about Tamra Johnson, PMHNP

Tamra Johnson is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with over a decade of experience. Her interest in psychiatry began when working as a nurse in a primary care setting. She saw how many people struggled with anxiety and depression symptoms without much help. She was connected to these patients and their stories. As a result, she decided she wanted to be in a place where she could help ease their suffering.

Tamra specializes in working with patients who suffer from depression, anxiety, ADHD, and Bipolar disorder. She also works with both adolescents and adults. With her interest in integrative psychiatry, she wants to explore treatment options with each patient to get them the relief they need. Tamra agrees with our belief that mental health care is not a one-size-fits-all solution. There are a number of alternative treatments that can be customized to each patient. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy and esketamine treatments can be used with medication management to meet patients’ unique needs. In fact, she has had several patients experience success with such alternative treatment plans.

Tamra Johnson would describe her work style as very collaborative. She wants to understand each patient’s unique story to best help them move in their journey to wellness. She is excited to work somewhere that values patients first, and she can’t wait to help patients find relief and success.

Personal Interests

Outside of work, Tamra loves hiking. She can’t get over the fact that she can drive less than 3 hours where she lives and have access to more hikes than she’ll ever be able to do in a lifetime. And gardening is more than a passion to her. It’s also a very meditative experience.

Education & Experience

Tamra got her Associate’s in Nursing from Bellevue College before transferring to the University of Washington for her Bachelor’s in Nursing. She later got her Master’s in Nursing from Maryville University in 2020. She also completed an Integrative Psychiatry fellowship at the AIMS Center University of Washington in 2021.

She has been working as a PMHNP for a number of years. Most recently, she was working at the University of Washington’s Women’s Healthcare Center. She was also an RN and worked as a childbirth and labor educator.
