Dr. Adefemi Taiwo is a dual board-certified Austin psychiatrist in the fields of general adult psychiatry and addiction psychiatry. He has been practicing in the field of psychiatry for more than eight years, offering a mix of medication management in conjunction with supportive therapy services in 30-minute follow-up visits.
He is also able to treat patients with esketamine and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy in Austin if they aren’t finding relief from medication. In his experience as a psychiatrist, Dr. Taiwo has seen the limitations of medications for patients. As such, having another effective treatment like TMS, which has given renewed life to many patients, is key.
Dr. Taiwo’s approach to clinical practice is based on a collaborative model with his patients being center stage. He seeks to involve them in their treatment decisions rather than assuming that he knows what is best for them.
Dr. Taiwo decided to get into the mental health field after seeing a close friend struggle with mental health and addiction while not being able to get the help he needed in his home country. Now, Dr. Taiwo is dedicated to giving his patients the support they deserve.
Personal Interests
Dr. Adefemi Taiwo is a huge soccer fan, so he spends his time outside of work watching his team, Barcelona, and playing soccer. He also enjoys traveling and spending time going to new restaurants with his wife.
Education & Experience
Dr. Taiwo received his medical degree from the University of Lagos Nigeria. He then went on to complete a general psychiatry residency training at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey Pennsylvania. Following the completion of his psychiatry residency, he completed a post-graduate addiction fellowship at the Yale VA addiction fellowship in Connecticut. He has worked as an adult psychiatrist since and is sharing his expert care with his patients at Mindful Health Solutions.
