More about Dr. Mohammadzadeh

Amir Mohammadzadeh, MD, is a multilingual psychiatrist who believes that in today’s digital age of overwhelming abundance, people are more susceptible to mental health disorders than ever before. He finds it imperative to treat them in the most comprehensive and effective manner possible.

Inspired by his cardiothoracic surgeon father, Dr. Mohammadzadeh started his medical career as a surgery resident at UCLA. While he found the acute, procedural nature of surgery to be thrilling, he soon realized that he felt more fulfilled by the meaningful patient-doctor relationships he experienced in psychiatry, which was his favorite rotation in medical school. In what proved to be the best decision he ever made, Dr. Mohammadzadeh thus reapplied and matched into a psychiatry residency at Vanderbilt. It is there he learned that the opportunity to hear each patient’s story and to be their greatest advocate on their journey toward self-fulfillment is a privilege that he does not take for granted. In his estimation, no aspect of health affects a person’s day-to-day living quite as much as mental health does, and playing a part in improving such an important facet of someone’s life, whether through medications, interventional techniques, or just by being there for them, is incredibly rewarding for him.

While Dr. Mohammadzadeh regularly utilizes traditional pharmacotherapy, he is particularly drawn to the innovative treatments that are offered at Mindful Health Solutions, such as TMS and esketamine, because they approach old problems in promising new ways. He also has a keen interest in emerging treatment modalities, such as psychedelics, and is a firm believer in the power of meditation, exercise, and other lifestyle interventions in improving both physical and mental health. Dr. Mohammadzadeh is committed to lifelong learning and finding the best path forward for his patients – with the important recognition that one size does not fit all.

Dr. Mohammadzadeh enjoys connecting with patients from all walks of life, however, he especially enjoys working with young adults, professionals, creatives, and anyone who believes they are not reaching their full potential due to mental health issues. As a young adult professional himself, Dr. Mohammadzadeh finds he can relate deeply to these patients – on both a professional and personal level. The word doctor comes from the Latin term for “teacher,” and Dr. Mohammadzadeh finds it immensely gratifying to teach patients about their condition, and as a result, empower them to live their best life. While withholding standard professionalism, Dr. Mohammadzadeh prides himself on humbly working with patients as if he were a knowledgeable friend or life coach. He combines his medical expertise with his innately warm, welcoming, and personable nature. While he takes his profession and the issues of his patients extremely seriously, he notes, he is ultimately a laid-back SoCal native who is easy to talk to. He says, “Whether through highs or lows, I’m there for my patients all the way with empathy and encouragement, and can discuss complex issues in a tangible, personally relevant manner.”

Dr. Mohammadzadeh would like to encourage potential patients to remember that you never have to go through mental health struggles alone. He says, “Although you may be reaching out during a time of crisis when things appear bleak, it is important to always keep hope, as things can and do get better.” While some may find this old proverb a bit cliché, Dr. Mohammadzadeh firmly believes it to be true – “It’s always darkest before the dawn” and he hopes to help each of his patients find their dawn.

Personal Interests

As a lifelong Angelino, Dr. Mohammadzadeh always felt that the West Coast is the best coast! He knows that only in California can you surf, ski, hike in lush forests, or camp in surreal deserts, all within a few hours of each other. Not to mention the perfect weather! Having been raised in Los Angeles since he was just 9 months old, for Mohammadzadeh Los Angeles is home. It’s where his family and friends are, so naturally, home is where the heart is. For Mohammadzadeh, many elements of LA feel like home; he enjoys the diverse array of people, the friendly and laid-back atmosphere, the tree-lined streets, the incredible food scene and equally incredible arts scene, and, perhaps most importantly, he loves the Los Angeles Lakers. He confirmed that there is no where he’d rather live than the City of Angels.

During his time off, Dr. Mohammadzadeh is most often traveling. South America, Europe, Asia — you name it! He loves to seek new experiences, broaden his horizons, and meet people from different cultures and backgrounds. More practically and day-to-day, he loves and deeply cherishes friends and family and spends as much time with them as possible over dinners, board games, beach days, trivia nights, and more. For fun, Mohammadzadeh likes to experience live music, and also enjoys hobbies like watching movies, working out at the gym, surfing and swimming at the beach, reading, completing crossword puzzles, trying new restaurants, driving down the Pacific Coast Highway, and, perhaps most importantly, rooting for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Education & Experience

Dr. Mohammadzadeh had a bit of a unique academic career path, in that he was accepted to UC San Diego’s 8-year medical scholar program directly out of high school. This program offered acceptance to UC San Diego’s medical school without having to take the MCAT, as long as a certain GPA was maintained. Using his AP credits from high school, Dr. Mohammadzadeh was fortunately able to graduate college in 3 years. He then decided to take a year off before starting medical school – and used this year to work as a medical scribe for 6 months, and then used all his earnings to adventure on a 4-month backpacking trip in South America. Mohammadzadeh says that these 4 months were among the best of his life, as he broadened his horizons, met incredible people, formed lifelong memories, and also became fluent in Spanish. Invigorated by this trip, he then matriculated to medical school at UC San Diego, which he finished in 5 years after deciding to use an extra year to conduct research. As mentioned previously, Dr. Mohammadzadeh originally began his medical calling in surgery and started off as a surgery resident at UCLA before he found his true passion for psychiatry.

From his very first telephone interview with Mindful Health Solutions to Dr. Mohammadzadeh’s final in-person site visit, he could sense an innovative and collegial practice environment at Mindful Health Solutions, which he knew he would thrive in. He notes that, “The combination of rigorous clinical acumen and approachable warmth that emanates from Mindful Health’s practice is rare to find, but incredibly important, especially in a holistic specialty such as psychiatry.” In addition to the setting, he says he was also drawn to the leading-edge treatment options available at Mindful Health Solutions. Whether TMS, SPRAVATO, intravenous ketamine, or traditional pharmacotherapy, MHS offers a comprehensive array of mental health solutions at the forefront of psychiatry’s present and future—all under one roof. This unique practice, in addition to the opportunity to serve his beloved Los Angeles community, made signing on with MHS an easy choice for Dr. Mohammadzadeh.

Dr. Mohammadzadeh sincerely believes that TMS therapy and the other innovative treatments here at MHS are the future of psychiatry. Dr. Mohammadzadeh knows that, along with alleviating symptoms, TMS addresses the root cause of mental health disorders by targeting the specific areas of the brain that are implicated in depression, OCD, nicotine addiction, and other conditions. He believes the strongest element of these treatments is that they also support neuroplasticity, a fundamental rewiring of the brain necessary for long-term change. Making improvement to be quick but long-lasting, with minimal side effects.

Dr. Mohammadzadeh is looking forward to serving alongside other MHS professionals in leading the charge forward in changing the mental health field through these groundbreaking interventional treatments.
