Inspired by his older brother, who became a psychiatrist in London, Tofler soon realized he also enjoyed the deeper developmental aspects of psychiatry, which regular medicine does not always delve into.
Now, with decades of academic and career experience, Dr. Tofler has found various areas of interest within psychiatry. Major interests of his include medical and consultation liaison psychiatry, as well as the area of sport psychiatry for high-achieving children and adolescents.
He even co-wrote a book: Keeping your Kids Out Front without Kicking them from Behind, and participated in the International Olympic Committee position paper on Abuse in sports.
Dr. Tofler adopts an empathetic and collaborative working style, as he knows it’s a vulnerable step for patients to seek mental health care. He treats all who come into his care with dignity and respect and strives to meet each patient’s unique needs. He is also diligent in collaborating with the whole treatment team, which is critical to the overall success of patient outcomes. Ian Tofler, MD, believes all patients provide a unique perspective and require understanding and empathy from a global point of view, which he adopts from his life experience.
Dr. Tofler is excited to explore the opportunity TMS and Ketamine therapy provide when it comes to treating patients with treatment-resistant depression, he believes it’s a major leap forward in psychiatric care. Personal Interests
Outside of seeing patients, Dr. Tofler enjoys spending time with friends and family, soccer, running and walking, as well as other sports. He also enjoys listening to and creating his own music, and composes rock music with themes from Harry Potter.
