Antidepressants and other medications are invaluable in treating mood disorders, such as clinical depression, and other mental health conditions, like ADHD. Along with psychotherapy, medication management is usually one of the first steps in your treatment plan.

The goal of medication management is to prescribe you one or more medications to help you find relief from your mental health condition. Depending on your needs, we may prescribe medications such as antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, or mood stabilizers. If one antidepressant doesn’t work well or causes side effects, don’t lose hope. Your provider may adjust the dosage or have you try another medication that may be better suited to your body chemistry.

Antidepressants work by impacting neurotransmitters, such as serotonin and dopamine, to alleviate the symptoms of depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders. Like taking an antibacterial medicine for a cold, medications such as antidepressants are taken to make mental illness symptoms more manageable.

Our blog posts explore and explain why, how, and when medication management could be an appropriate treatment option for you. However, please talk with your provider about your best course of treatment.
