More about Emma Castro, MD
Dr. Castro’s journey into the field of psychiatry began in medicine as a primary care provider, including experience as a surgical attendant and weekend hospitalist for an Orthopedics department. This strong medical background paired with perfectly with her passion for people – learning their stories, helping friends and loved ones with troubles – and her family legacy of psychiatrists and psychotherapists.
Throughout her career, Dr. Castro has worked with depressed patients who didn’t respond to traditional medications, even after several trials of antidepressants. This fueled her desire to be able to provide more mental health tools to help them.
She enjoys working with patients who are motivated by change. An empathic, supportive, and caring provider, Dr. Castro understands that in therapeutic relationships, trust is a two-way street, and takes the time required to get to know her patients, build trust, and motivate them along their path toward finding the relief they deserve.
Personal Interests
A California transplant, Dr. Castro loves the Sacramento area, from the weather and landscapes to the people themselves. More than anything, she says, she appreciates Californians and their way of life, and the importance placed on maintaining a life of balance.
