More about Nikhil Majumdar, MD

Dr. Majumdar works with patients who may be experiencing clinical depression or other psychiatric disorders. He loves hearing people’s life stories and helping them untangle their past and present. He appreciates patients that embrace a shared responsibility with him to improve their lives. With his experience in diagnosis and treatment, he can help them learn more about themselves and how to assist in their own recovery.

He realized the importance of mental health at a very early age. As a child, his father required a heart bypass and due to complications, there was a concern his father might not wake with his brain fully functioning. In that moment, it was clear to him that as important as overall health is, the health and sharpness of your mind really defines your life. He found this to be even more evident in medical school, where he witnessed people with grave physical struggles continue to do well by finding and maintaining overall contentment with their lives.

He considers Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to be at the forefront of neurological and psychiatric treatment, which he uses to stimulate the brain in a specific area to improve symptoms of depression. He looks forward to watching TMS grow in its ability to treat other conditions as other areas of the brain are carefully mapped.

Personal Interests

Dr. Majumdar stays healthy with martial arts and qigong, which he thoroughly enjoys. He appreciates good music and delights in all the different entertainment options available in the Bay Area. He relishes the great weather the Bay Area delivers and how he can reach almost any climate he wants within a few hours. He has a passion for travel and visiting places where he can scuba dive and experience the beauty of the underwater world.

Education & Experience

Dr. Majumdar received his bachelor’s degree in Biology, Neuroscience, and Religious Studies from Oberlin College, with minors in Chemistry, East Asian Studies, History, and Psychology. Medical school had been a part of his plan from a young age and he attended Ross University School of Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Medicine.

Following that, he completed his general psychiatry residency at the University of Nevada, where he provided psychiatry and dual-diagnosis treatment in a range of medical settings, including adult inpatient care in a regional VA hospital, a state psychiatric facility, and a private psychiatric facility. Subsequently, he completed a senior residency at Michigan State University- Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies. Here he provided both outpatient and inpatient care through medication management and therapy. His elective work included directing an ECT service, teaching neurology, and attending an observership in neuroradiology and neurosurgery.

He spent five years at the San Francisco VA Medical Center, where he began as an attending psychiatrist and eventually became the section chief for inpatient and emergency psychiatry, with medical directorship of the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and Psychiatric Evaluation Services.

Most recently, he was an attending psychiatrist at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital/University of California San Francisco. In addition to practicing psychiatry, he supervised and taught medical students as well as psychiatric residents who were rotating in the Psychiatric Emergency Services unit, treating patients in an emergency room setting.

He joined Mindful Health Solutions in the Summer of 2018.

Testimonials

“I have been going in for Esketamine and have received really good care. I like the waiting room, masks are strongly advised and they have some available, hand sanitizer as well. The staff is very reactive and make sure we are fine; they’re always on time. It feels like going to a spa. Available in the Esketamine rooms are color changing lamps, ceiling projector for colors and stars and it can connect to your phone for music/sounds. The chair is comfy and large, and the sound of the elevator shaft is very relaxing and rhythmic. Healthy small lollipops are available to cover the taste of the spray. You are more than welcome to have an online therapy session there if you bring your computer as well. I would maybe propose yoga mats for people who feel more comfortable on the floor. A doctor will help you administer the medication, and then a nurse will take your blood pressure every hour.”

Testimonials

“My primary care doctor referred me to MHS because I was struggling with depression and reluctant to see a tradition psychiatrist. I had tried meds before and had little success. Right away, I preferred the privacy of meeting with her online. I felt like she did a great job of assessing my lifestyle and needs. She started me meds and it took several weeks before I started to feel better, but once we got the dosage right I felt like a different person. The fog had lifted.”
