More about Bakari Eugene Vickerson, MD

Dr. Bakari Vickerson is a board-certified psychiatrist from Atlanta whose goal is to see every patient significantly improve. He first studied at Morehouse College before completing his psychiatry and integrative medicine residencies at Emory University. He fell in love with psychiatry during medical school as he began working with patients. To him, time stood still while he was able to talk with patients and get to know them, and that connection allowed for the most cohesive treatment plans.

Dr. Vickerson believes in holistic treatment. Treatment options such as psychotherapy, medication management, and other therapies are only one piece of the overall puzzle. For these treatments to succeed, he believes the patient’s lifestyle must work in favor of healing. Alternative treatments such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy and esketamine are other options that work alongside the patient.

To Dr. Bakari Vickerson, working with psychiatry patients is all about evidence-based treatment and resources. Mindful Health Solutions works with this evidence-based philosophy, which relies on patient-first care, science, and the expertise of our clinicians. Practitioners such as Dr. Vickerson are eager to work head-on with patients to create a treatment plan that works to ease the suffering of each individual.

The majority of Dr. Vickerson’s free time is spent outdoors. His favorite activities are jogging, hiking, swimming, and cycling. When not exercising, you can often find him in the garden or bird watching. He also enjoys caring for the mind with yoga and meditation.

He also completed two residencies at Emory: one in outpatient psychotherapy/psychopharmacology and one in psychiatry residency.

His career began as an assistant professor at Morehouse until he moved to a psychiatry job in Atlanta. He worked at two different clinics before becoming a Medical Director at Grady Hospital and then coming to join Mindful Health Solutions.
