More about Robert Daboval, MD

Dr. Robert Daboval is a psychiatrist who is interested in treating mood and anxiety disorders through medication management and interventional psychiatric treatments. He first focuses on identifying the disorders present in the patients. Then, he prioritizes talking through the different treatment options available to them, including medications, interventional treatments, therapies, or any other evidence-based treatments that can improve their lives.

Dr. Daboval became intrigued by psychiatry toward the end of medical school as he was completing his psychiatry clerkship. He was fascinated by the emergence of neurobiological solutions to mental health, found humility in patients trusting him with their innermost struggles, and fulfilled in helping them find understanding and solutions to their condition.

Dr. Daboval’s working style with patients is collaborative and empathetic. He states, “Every patient is unique, and I work to tailor treatments to what will be best for them in their life.” He hopes that patients are open-minded and commit to trusting the process as they seek to understand the root of their struggles and the options to address them. Diagnosis can only be achieved through full comprehension of a patient and their life, which requires a patient to open up fully with their psychiatrist. It is a big ask and is understandably a challenge for a patient, but it also leads to the best treatment outcomes.

Personal Interests

Houston has been home for most of Dr. Daboval’s life. He loves the culture of the city and feels it has everything to offer. The climate (except for July and August…), sports, and food in the city are second to none in his opinion.

Outside of work, he spends time with his family and enjoys watching and playing sports, including soccer, tennis, football, and basketball. He also finds fulfillment in reading, cooking, and working on home improvement projects.

Education & Experience

Dr. Daboval graduated from UTMB Medical School and was matched into his first-choice residency program at Baylor College of Medicine. There, he trained under many great psychiatrists in a variety of settings. He knew through residency that he wanted to work in an outpatient setting, as having ongoing patient relationships and progressing through treatment with patients on a longer-term basis was and remains a most rewarding experience.
