Richard Bermudes, MD: Esketamine, Medication Management and TMS
Dr. Bermudes is Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry and Family Medicine, with 20 years’ experience caring for patients. He founded Mindful Health Solutions in 2007, serves as the practice’s Medical Director, and is an expert on TMS practice organization and policy development. With his background as a professor and researcher, he leads the practice in its mission to educate the public and clinicians on both mental health issues and TMS, to continually seek the most advanced treatments, and to actively contribute to the medical community’s knowledge of mental health conditions and therapy efficacy.
He recently wrote and edited “Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation: Clinical Applications for Psychiatric Practice”, a book with key research findings on TMS as well as its potential to be used for other conditions such as OCD, PTSD, Adolescent Depression and mild dementia. He is experienced in treating patients with MDD (Major Depressive Disorder), including Unipolar Depression.
Dr. Bermudes is a caring, collaborative practitioner with a structured, goal-oriented approach to treating mental health conditions. His treatment plans may include TMS, medication management or cognitive therapy.
Benjamin Cheyette, MD, PhD: Esketamine, Medication Management and TMS
Dr. Cheyette is Board-Certified in Psychiatry with over twenty years of practice treating a wide variety of patients including those with depression. He loves general psychiatry, has a clinical interest in adult ADHD, and has additional expertise in substance abuse treatment including a second board certification in Addiction Medicine.
Since high school if not earlier, he has been analytical about human behavior and interested in the brain. While initially leaning towards academia, he found great satisfaction in direct patient care during medical school and beyond. Throughout his years of research and professorship, he continued to treat patients and is passionate about helping people overcome emotional challenges.
He has a collaborative approach that emphasizes sharing his deep formal expertise and clinical experience to help patients make well-informed decisions. He recognizes that for all patients in the outpatient setting, treatment for mental health is a choice, and so a patient must be on board with any proposed therapeutic approach. He has found the best way to achieve this is by offering a thorough explanation of his thought process, so that his patients understand his rationale for recommending a course of treatment.
Having spent several decades in academia as a research scientist, including running a National Institute of Health (NIH)-funded laboratory exploring genetic and neurobiological bases for psychiatric illness and its treatment, he is very interested in cutting-edge innovations such as esketamine, and the rationally-based treatment Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and is eager to use them to help patients.
He joins Mindful Health Solutions in early 2021.
Rama Dronamraju, MD: Esketamine, Medication Management and TMS
Dr. Dronamraju is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist with over thirty years of extensive experience. She focuses on patients with clinical depression, bipolar depression, treatment-resistant mood and psychotic disorders, and she is particularly interested in helping patients with neuromodulation and brain stimulation therapies, such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).
Dr. Dronamraju works with her patients as partners in treatment, helping them understand their symptoms, the nature of their illness, and the treatment itself. She sees them as a whole person with a full life, and compassionately works with them to provide knowledge and insight into their struggles and often bringing their families into the fold. She helps them remain in treatment and avoid relapse, providing them with tools to lead meaningful, functional lives.
She has found that for patients with mood disorders, response to standard medication and therapy is often limited. She has treated with Electroconvulsive Therapy for many years and has witnessed her patients find relief and recovery. She looks forward to treating patients with TMS as a treatment modality as it has the potential to benefit various types of patients and is non-invasive, not requiring anesthesia and having few if any side effects.
She joined Mindful Health Solutions in the Fall of 2019.
